KAMPALA- The newly-appointed
Deputy Executive Director Uganda Media Centre, Col. Shaban Bantariza who
was Monday arrested over alleged fraud has been charged and remanded to
Makindye Military Prison.
The former head of the Kyankwanzi-based National Leadership Institute (NALI) and army spokesman appeared before the General Court martial that was chaired by Brig. Moses Ddiba Ssentogo.
Col. Bantariza was charged on
three counts of fraud that include fraudulent offences, offences
relating to documents and conspiracy to defraud.
Prosecution alleges that Col.
Bantariza, who was the head of NALI, on February 3, 2011 at Akamba
Uganda Ltd, on Old Port Bell Road in Kampala District; received a
tractor and its accessories which was donated to NALI by the Finance
Ministry.
However, Col. Bantariza allegedly claimed to have bought the said tractor at Sh67 million
Col. Bantariza was appointed deputy director of the Uganda Media Centre last month.
