The Ministry of Health plans to roll out a new computerised system that will monitor drugs from the National Medical Stores to the end user.

The $22.8m (about Shs56.9b) Integrated Intelligent Computer System, which was developed in 2010 through the Presidential Support to Scientists initiative, is currently being used at Mulago Hospital.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Monitor yesterday, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Asuman Lukwago explained: “We need about Shs124.3b to rollout the system in the whole country because the ministry is highly interested in its benefits.”

Dr Lukwago said the system has for two years helped the drug management system at Mulago Hospital where delivered drugs are entered into the system plus their batch number and the date of expiry.
