He says the hospital faces a problem of quack doctors who solicit money from unsuspecting and desperate patients
Four medical doctors attached to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital have been committed to the Anti Corruption Court to face charges of corruption and abuse of office.
The suspects are Dr. Herbert Kalema, Dr. Benon Bagasha Mweteise, Dr. Aloysius Matte, and Dr. George Muhindo.
They were arrested in October
last year by the State House Medicine and Health Services Delivery
Monitoring Team but released on bond as investigations progressed.
Mr Abbie Kaleb Tashobya, a
detective handling the case says investigations are complete and the
suspects’ file has been forwarded to the court where they would be
tried.
Dr. George Upenthyo, the
director of Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital welcomed the move to
prosecute health workers implicated in soliciting bribes from patients.
He says the hospital faces a problem of quack doctors who solicit money from unsuspecting and desperate patients.
Dr Upenthyo says it is difficult for the administration to arrest such impostors since their victims do not alert management.
