MPs to be trained on House rules

An induction workshop for Members of the National Assembly on parliamentary practice and procedures starts on Thursday morning ahead of Tuesday’s reconvening of the newly constituted Parliament.

The 349 MPs will be taken through the intensive training for two days at the Nairobi Safari Club after which they will be expected to efficiently attend to their parliamentary duties.

Top on the training programme are the rules of procedure of the House and the operational structure of Parliament.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Clerk of the National Assembly Justin Bundi, Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso and experts from the State University of New York (Suny-Kenya) are among those who will address the opening session of the induction workshop.

The legislators will be taken through the Standing Orders, House practices and rules.

They will also be taken through the general etiquette, decorum and international relations practices of the National Assembly.

A session is scheduled for Friday on the facilities, services and allowances available to them including pension, health and mortgage schemes
