Road accident claims two in Rukwa

TWO people, including a minor aged five years have died on the spot and five others were severely injured, after a Noah car they were travelling in veered off the road before overturning.

Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr George Kyando confirmed about the tragic incident, saying the car that was involved in the car belonged to Moravian Church.
He said the road carnage occurred on Thursday at 16:00 pm at Kamawe Village in Kalambo District, involving a Noah car with registration T549 DFK, property of Moravian Church at Mwimbi Village.
The deceased passengers were identified as the five-year old child-Shama Charula and Winfrida Simon (35), both from Mwimbi village in Kalambo District. The wounded persons were identified as Joyce Namzyemba (27), Dalla Kalito (35), Lucia Pesa (30), Janeroza Nkasu (25) and Balbina Ndasi (50), all from Mwimbi village.
They are all admitted to Rukwa Regional Referral Hospital in Sumbawanga town. Recounting on the road accident, RPC said the ill-fated car with seven people on board was heading to Kasesha village bordering the neighbouring Zambia from Mwimbi village in Kalambo District.
“As per preliminary police investigations, the cause of the accident was reckless driving, including speeding. We have arrested the driver and we will arraign him to court upon completion of our investigation,” the RPC added.
Meanwhile, a car belonging to Sumbawanga District Council with registration number STK 360 hit a minor child aged seven years, injuring him on late Thursday. According to RPC, the cause of the road accident was reckless driving, including speeding on the part of the driver who has been arrested.
