PARLIAMENTARY Privileges, Ethics and Powers Committee has rejected intentions to move a motion in the parliament seeking to remove Deputy Speaker, Tulia Ackson from her post over alleged bias.
Simanjiro Member of Parliament, James
Millya (CHADEMA) wrote to the committee over his intention to move the
motion in persuading the parliament to impeach Dr Ackson.
Chairman of the committee, Mr George
Mkuchika, said while presenting the committee’s report on its activities
that Mr Millya argued in his written intention that the Deputy Speaker
was acting on the interests of her party instead of the National
Assembly.
Mr Millya also charged that Dr Ackson
was not valuing desirable respect to the opposition Special Seats MPs
and embarrassing Kilwa South lawmaker, Seleman Bungala in parliament. He
said the committee worked on the proposed motion, and came up with the
decision that the list of names of supporting MPs attached with the
document was incorrect.
Mr Mkuchika said the list includes names
of opposition lawmakers under their umbrella of UKAWA who attended the
parliament meeting on May 31 last year. “The date for intention to
remove the Deputy Speaker and the date for attendance of the members of
UKAWA differ.
The list of attendants was for May 31
and the intention was prepared on June 1,” he said. He said upon
noticing the weaknesses, the committee applied Standing Order Number
138(2), which provides for procedures for removing the Deputy Speaker
from her post.
Basing on the evidences to support the motion brought to the committee, he said the committee was not satisfied with them.
