WORKS, Transport and Communications Minister, Prof, Makame Mbarawa, has ordered contractors of the 62.7-km Mangaka-Mtambaswala road and the 70.5 km Mangaka-Nakapanya stretch to complete the projects by June this year.
In line with the order, Prof Mbarawa has
also urged contractors to secure more equipment and personnel for
timely completion of the projects as agreed in the contract.
The Minister gave the directives during
his visit of Mtwara and Lindi regions to inspect roads and port
projects. “I want the two projects to be complete by June this year and
in the quality that corresponds to the value for money and no extension
of time,” he directed.
Completion of the two tarmac roads is
expected to open up economic opportunities in the two Region as well as
connect Tanzania and Mozambique through the Umoja Bridge.

(TANROADS) Manager, Eng, Aisha Salim, said her agency would not accept
any requests for extension of time.
“Construction for the 62.7 km
Mangaka-Mtambaswala road stretch is expected to end in May and that of
the 70.5-km Mangaka-Nakapanya section on July, this year,” she said.
Prof Mbarawa inspected the condition of
roads in Ruangwa, Nachingwea and Masasi districts. He promised that
building of the roads will begin after acquiring funds for the Road Fund
