THE Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, has pledged to uphold good relations nurtured by previous leadership with other nations, including the one with the Republic of Cuba.
Mr Majaliwa said this in Cuba on
Thursday evening when he arrived in the country and met the Deputy
Foreign Minister of Cuba, Ms Anna Teressa and held talks with her on
strengthening the two countries bilateral relations.
“We recognise the existing ties between
Tanzania and Cuba from way back during the leadership of the late Father
of the Nation, Mwl Julius Nyerere,” said Mr Majaliwa. During the PM’s
visit in Cuba, he is expected to meet and hold talks with various top
government officials of the country with the aim of promoting
cooperation in various areas including health, education and
agriculture.
Among other areas of friendship noted by
Premier Majaliwa includes social, economic and political, citing an
example of the health sector where doctors from Cuba travelled to
Tanzania to attend to patients suffering from major cases.
Mr Majaliwa further observed that during
the tour, he is going to meet with the business community in Cuba to
highlight on investment opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in the
industrialisation sector as well as promote attractions of the country.
On her part, Ms Anna extended
recognition to the government of Tanzania for cementing their relations
between the two countries, pledging to further strengthen it. She made
use of the chance to applaud the fifth phase government under the
leadership of President John Magufuli for his initiative to fight
against corruption, promote accountability and advocating for the less
privileged.
