INSPECTOR General of Police (IGP), Simon Sirro has called upon retired police commissioners to cooperate with citizens and security organs to maintain peace and security in the community.
IGP Sirro made the remarks during a
ceremony to bid farewell to three retired police commissioners held
yesterday at the Dar es Salaam Police Academy (DPA).
The retired police commissioners include
former Commissioner for Operations and Training, Mr Paul Chagonja,
Zanzibar Commissioner of Police Hamdan Omary Makame and Commissioner of
the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority, Kenneth Kasseke.
“I call upon you to continue providing
support to security organs and cooperate with citizens in ensur ing that
peace and security is maintained in the society. You are supposed to be
role models to the society in ensuring that criminal incidents are
reduced,” IGP Sirro said.
The police chief said that their
performance will be evaluated depending on what they are doing, urging
them to be in the forefront in educating the society on issues related
to peace and security. IGP Sirro explained that the police force has a
system of bidding farewell to retired commissioners as appreciation for
their work.
On his part, Mr Paul Chagonja advised
the police to assess themselves in their work and adhere to ethics so as
to improve security of the people. “Police force should work in
accordance with laws and ethics and cooperate with citizens in order to
reduce the number of criminals in the society,” he said.
He thanked Tanzania police force for
organising the special event which will help in bringing unity among the
police and the citizen. On his part, former Zanzibar Commissioner of
Police, Hamdan Omary Makame, called on the police force to increase
efforts at work in order to improve security for the benefit of their
people and the nation.
